Here GB Karate athlete Sophie Santillo performs a resisted sled sprint and broad jumps as part of a session designed to improve her ability to express power repeatedly.

Karate is a full contact combat sport and athletes must be quick. Not just quick, strong and fit too. Fights last 2 minutes for the ladies and 3 for guys with points scored for clean strikes and takedowns.

 

The aim here is to perform each rep with intent and explosive effort. This is just a snap shot of what Sophie’s training sessions involve but as National and Student Champion she is going from strength to strength.
